Teriyaki Turkey Meatballs

Sweet and fragrant, these little nuggets of deliciousness are completely kid-friendly and make a great little party appetizer. You can also use ground pork or chicken in lieu of the turkey.

PREP TIME: 15 minutes
COOK TIME: 15 minutes

For the meatballs:
16 ounces ground turkey
1/2 cup panko bread crumbs
1/4 cup white onion, finely chopped
1 large egg
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger or 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 garlic clove, minced
2 teaspoons sesame oil

For the sauce:
1/4 cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon rice or white wine vinegar
1 medium garlic clove, minced
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Sesame seeds and chopped green onion, to garnish

Line a large rimmed baking sheet with tin foil. Pre-heat oven to 400 F.

Combine all meatball ingredients in a large bowl. Mix gently with your hands until just combined; overmixing will cause the meatballs to become tough.

Roll into 1 inch meatballs and bake at 400 for 10 to 12 minutes or until juices run clear.

WHile the meatballs are cooking, make the sauce. Simmer all sauce ingredients together in a small sauce pan for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently or until slightly thickened.

Transfer warm meatballs to a mixing bowl, drizzle with warm sauce and toss to combine.

To serve as a party appetizer, insert a toothpick or popsicle stick into each meatball and arrange on a platter. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onion.
