Patti Maloy’s Marinara Sauce
This zesty marinara gets a kick from plenty of red wine and a bit of brandy. It's absolutely wonderful as a grown-up pizza topping or used in a veggie lasagna.

Patti Maloy’s Marinara Sauce
Ingredients
2 tablespoons extra virgin oil
1 medium yellow onion, diced
3-5 cloves garlic, crushed with flat knife and sliced thinly
1 cup diced fresh basil
1/2 cup red wine
1 tablespoon raw sugar or Splenda®
1 28-ounce can crushed or diced tomatoes
1 teaspoon lemon juice
3 tablespoons brandy
Salt and pepper, to taste
Directions
Sauté onions 10-12 minutes, add garlic and basil. Cover and cook for 5 more minutes. Uncover and add wine, tomatoes and salt and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes. Add brandy and lemon before finishing.
